Time
Telesminar times are usually Monday evenings 5:30pm PST, 8:30pm EST (time.gov). Duration: 1-2 hours. You will receive the specific details for each call by email. Please demonstrate your respect for the training and your fellow participants by being on time. We will start each session promptly.

Questions
Your questions are an important and valuable part of the training. Please ask them! Your questions will help everyone understand what is being taught and help alert me to areas that may need to be covered more fully. Sometimes I may defer questions to another time for one or more of the following reasons:

1. If I think the question may not be relevant to a majority of the group, I may ask you to ask again privately, after the call or during an exercise.
2. If the question is not directly relevant to the training outcomes at the time, or if the answer will make more sense later in the training, I’ll let you know when your question will be particularly relevant, and ask you to ask again then. I may also give you a brief answer now, and defer a more complete answer until later.
3. If I’m pressed for time and need to move on, I’ll ask you to wait until a break or an “open frame” time to ask it again.
4. If you have already asked a lot of questions (even if they’re good ones) I’ll call on others who haven’t asked as many questions to make sure they’re heard too.

Materials

1. Blog. You will receive access to password protected posts on this blog detailing the standard material included in this training. I may also provide supplemental material on this blog.

   Just as the menu in a restaurant is only a description of the food (far removed from the taste, texture and nutritional value of the experience of eating), this material on this blog is merely a written representation of the experience of training. Its purpose is to remind you of the experience, not to substitute for it. Place your attention on the stories, demonstrations, exercises and results.

2. Products. A selection of home-study courses, including books, audio, and video will be available for purchase at my site.
3. Exercises are designed to create an initial learning experience sufficient for you to continue learning on your own and in study groups. Typically, some of you will finish a given exercise early and have an opportunity for a break, while others may be interrupted before they are done. If you are unable to finish an exercise, I encourage you to arrange to finish it later. Be sure that you go first in the next exercise so that you experience it fully. If you are always the Explorer first, you may miss out on the experience of being Guide. If you vary the rule that you do first in each exercise you will ensure that you get maximum learning from the exercises. Usually you will get much more out of an exercise if you do it with people you don’t know well and with people who are different than you.
4. Feedback. I want you to make this training as thorough and useful to you as possible. If you have any suggestions that you think would make the training meet your professional and personal needs and desires more fully, please let me know. • Practice, practice, practice.
• Focus on your personal communication goals, and stretch.

• Remember that performance and learning are different. Learning happens best in a relaxed, comfortable state of mind.
• Give me lots of feedback about how to help you learn.
• Suspend judgment and criticism (especially of yourself) during the learning process. An open-minded skeptic can learn. Sometimes people experience confusion in a learning state.
• Relax, accept and trust that your confusion will resolve.
• Practice each skill again. If you use each skill learned in this course six times, it willbe yours for life.
• There are four stages of learning:
  1. Unconscious incompetence
  2. Conscious incompetence
  3. Conscious competence
  4. Unconscious competence
