The Power of Nightmares Part 1

December 3, 2006 By Graham English

It turns out that the roots of today’s Islamic fundamentalism and modern perceptions of concepts such as jihad can be traced back to Sayyid Qutb’s stay in Greeley, Colorado of all places.

The BBC have produced an astounding three part documentary on the illusion of terror in political power. Episode one details the Neoconservatism movement in the US as influenced by Leo Strauss and Islamic fundamentalism as influenced by Qutb.

A profound and commendable documentary.

Wow! This explains so much. I’ve seen several other documentaries of this variety in an effort to understand the whole quagmire better. This one has filled in a few gaps (for me) about how it all got started. I only wish at this point that more people cared enough to investigate this further and uncover more of the story.

Many people in America are taking things at face value right now and that always concerns me. Thanks for sharing this Graham. At least some of us are listening…

    Peace,
    Rich

All three episodes are worth watching. And they could definitely produce a fourth or fifth with everything that’s gone on since, as well as with the current election campaigning.
