Ear Training Hacks 1-2

Ear Training Hack #1. To get an accurate account of absolute pitch, it is important to measure the results of a pitch recognition test.
Accuracy is necessary to demonstrate absolute pitch. But before you demonstrate absolute pitch, relative improvements of pitch recognition can be demonstrated–but only if they are measured.
If you test at 10% pitch recognition, [...]

Song Composed Entirely of 37 Cello Parts. See the Video.

This is a pretty amazing video of Ethan Winer playing 37 separate cello parts to create one song. He even plays the percussion parts on his cello. It was recorded on 23 tracks using 37 plug-in effects. He spent hundreds of hours on this project so its worth a listen.

Preston Reed Is Blogging MusicHacks

Preston Reed is now a blogging musician and people are talking:

preston reed is blogging.
Dead Cool or Who is Preston Reed?
Watching Preston Reed
Blog Measurement – Sunday’s Random Thought

This return to the theme need not always be literal. It can be conceptual, i.e. not included in the composition but still finished in the mind the listener.
That’s a [...]

Does Absolute Pitch Power require an instrument?

Michael: Does your course require an instrument? or does it include all the sounds need to train (could I do it while traveling in my car?)
Graham: Michael, my course doesn’t require an instrument. I wanted to make it available to anybody and that’s why I made it so you wouldn’t need an instrument. It does [...]

Music for 02-24-06

I tightened up the song I wrote yesterday and recorded this piano track. I’m going to commit to a melody and start putting some lyrics to the form.

Music for 02-23-06d

This is an edit of the track before. It’s a pop rock ballad (u2, coldplay); EbMAJ7, BbMAJ7. You can hear the verse and chorus shaping up with a melody, form and changes. I’m going to write the lyrics and FINISH this one.

This is the work in progress of the next song. No need to listen to this unless you want to hear me composing. Around 12:00 I start to find what I’m looking for.

Music for 02-23-06b

A 90bpm funk Gmin7 groove (Dorian). No vocals in this but it’s got a nasty groove played by a moth3rfuck3r. Maybe it’s the K2600 to my left.

Music for 02-23-06a

This is an 80bpm funk Bbm7 groove. Not much to listen to except 8 minutes of groove. I was setting up the mic to record on this one.

Music for 02-22-06

I set up my clav above the hammond and the wurly to the right. The hammond has two mics on it and the wurly is direct. The clav is direct and running through a Line 6 Pod. The sample is an Apple Loop. Don’t remember the name. Abmin13 120bpm.
