Google is beginning to grab a part of the top 10 search results for themselves. So far, they’ve been adding the following to page one of your search queries:
- Google News listings that include images.
- Google Local listings with embedded maps.
- Google Video that you can watch right within your search results.
But it’s not all bad news. If you can get content indexed in one of Google’s verticals, like Google Video, Maps, or News, you could snag a listing on page-one that you might not have been able to get before.
Now is the time to optimize for video rankings, like YouTube and Google Video. Start now by creating simple screen capture video tutorials and link to them with the anchor text of the search term you’re trying to rank for. It’s also time to optimize for Google News, Images, Local, and Blog Search.
Don’t let Google Universal Search steal your top search listings.
